Coats Just for Pugs!

yogi.jpg

The Pug Snuggly By YOGI is a dog coat designed specifically for pugs. If you own a pug, you probably already know how hard it is to find a coat that will fit their uniquely shaped body. Their necks and shoulders are so wide that most jackets simply do not fit.

I’ve brought home so many pug jackets and had to take them back to the store because they were too tight on my little guy’s shoulders. Or, the opposite problem of having something fit around the neck which makes it too big everywhere else. Then there are clothes that ride up and get all bunched up around him.

All this might sound like a lot of hulabaloo, but pugs tend to get chilled quickly in the winter. My problem has always been that my big girl needs long walks, but my little guy couldn’t stand the cold longer than half a block. With a coat, he plays outdoors for a long time. I think the Pug Snuggly by YOGI looks like it might just be the perfect fit.

For those of you with pugs, or similar shaped dogs like French Bulldogs, check out the Pug Snuggly by YOGI and tell me what you think.

10 Unique Pet Dishes!

I followed a link to a neat site with various items for pet owners that I had never seen before, including this pet bowl:
chickybabebowl.jpg The site is Petego and the bowl is called the Chicky Babe. There is even a matching mat if you peruse the various sections of the site.

There are a lot of unique pet bowls out there, so I decided to put together a list of at least ten really neat pet bowls. So the chicky babe was number one. Let’s look at the rest!

wowo2raised.JPG2. Wowo 2 Raised Series Feeders from The Pawhaus Pet Boutique - These feeders are not only beautiful, but raised feeders are supposed to be good for the health of dogs by allowing them to eat with a more natural posture, and better for your home by making mealtime cleaner.

sixdayautofeeder.jpg 3. Lentek Six Day Automatic Feeder - My sister has an automatic pet feeder for her cat and it works very well to ensure that it gets fed on time all the time, and that her food is always measured out carefully and that she sticks to her diet. This type of auto feeder would work well for a small dog.

outwardhound.gif 4. Outward Hound No Spill Port-A-Bowl - I bought this set of food bowls for when I took my big dog Anna on hikes and trips. This way I could pack up some food in the bottom bowl and water in the top. They top bowl that holds the water has a neat closure to help prevent spills while you are transporting the bowls. The water bowl zips onto the top of the food bowl, so they are quite compact. Also, when the dishes aren’t being used, you can just fold them up as they are made out of fabric.

delobowl.jpg 5. Delo Dog Bowl - These bowls just look really neat! They are available in three different colors, and come in three sizes for all types of dogs. They have a handle and rubber feet to make them much easier to use, and they are washable and made out of acrylic.

goldcrownfeeder-LG.jpg 6. Gold Crown Feeder - Is your pup a prince or princess? Then perhaps they need this golden crown style feeder! I can’t say that I’ve ever seen anything quite like it!

winefeeders.jpg 7. Wine Crate Elevated Double Feeders - At Whiner & Diner you will find pet bowls that have been fashioned out of wine crates, and they are beautiful! Available in both single and double feeders, you can choose the color of the authentic wine crate used to make your elevated feeder.

hduo.JPG 8. HduO Water Dispenser - Now you can have a water cooler for the human members of the family that also serves the canine members as well! This water cooler keeps a lower bowl filled with fresh water for your pets is auto-filled with a sensor to prevent overfilling. Pretty cool!

brakefast.jpg 9. Brake Fast Bowl - This is a dog bowl designed for dogs that wolf down their food too quickly. Eating fast is linked to bloat, which can be fatal, so a bowl like this can be a lifesaver, literally. The weird pegs in the middle of the bowl force your dog to slow down. The bowl is also quite slippery on the bottom meaning the bowl will move around on the floor as they eat, making them work even harder for their meal! Poor doggies! :)

long_ear_custom.jpg 10. Long Eared Dog Bowl - Dogs with long ears have troubles when it comes to eating and drinking especially. Those ears tend to drag into their water and get all messy! With a long-eared-dog-bowl, your dogs ears should stay outside of the bowl because the opening to the bowl is smaller than the base. This link leads to a really nice site that has beautiful pottery bowls that are handmade, offering custom designs and pre-made designs. They have other dishes such as a short-nosed bowl, and they have other products as well.

After seeking out those unique dog dishes to share with you, I am overwhelmed with how many great dog bowls there are out there. Of course there are all kinds of cute dishes with unique designs, but there are some pretty innovative ideas now! I hope you enjoyed the list!

Top Tag: USB Dog Tag

toptag.jpg

I’m always worried about what will happen should my dogs wander off and someone else find them. Will the people have the sense to get a vet to check for their microchips? Will the information on their tags be information enough?

And then it kind of sucks when I take them to the dog sitter and have to take two huge folders of information with me regarding their care and vet information, plus emergency contact information.

Well I saw this really neat tag for dogs called the Top Tag Pet ID. It’s a little USB device that you can use to store all kinds of information about your dog. It fits inside a little rubbery tag holder and you just stick it on your dog’s collar. Anyone with a computer can plug in the device and access the information. Pretty neat!

The information the tag lets you store fits into a few categories. When someone plugs in the Top Tag, the first page always loaded is the contact information. There are other categories too such as Main Diet, Photo Album, Words and Commands, Medical Information, and Behavior & Personality.

Visit the official website if you are interested in learning more.

Stretchy Dog Harness for Smaller Dogs

rcdogharness.jpg

Yesterday, the pug meetup was held at a dog daycare that also runs a pet store. Chublet really needed a harness because he pulls a lot when I take him for a walk and I felt a harness wouldn’t pull on his neck as much. I was also concerned about him pulling out of his collar.

I had looked at our regular large chain pet store, but all they had were the usual nylon harnesses. They didn’t look too comfortable, and didn’t really seem to have the correct size.

While at the pet meetup, I nipped next door and checked out the small store. They had these wonderful little harnesses, made for smaller dogs, that have a stretchy mesh body to them. It looked so comfortable and fit Chublet well. He had plenty of comfortable room for his fat little neck, but the harness was still snug enough to fit.

I’m really pleased to have found this collar and now that I’ve looked them up online, I see that the company has a website. I thought I’d share the link with everyone in case you are having trouble finding a comfortable harness for your smaller dog.

Pet Peek: New Dog Gadget

petpeek.jpg

Does your dog pace up and down along the fence, dying to get a good peek at what the neighbors are up to? Do you have a massive fortification along your property line and want to give your dog a look at who is on the sidewalk?

Do not fear, the Pet Peek is here!

I’m not sure this would reduce barking, scratching, or digging like the product description claims, but it sure looks hilarious!

Unfortunately, stock is out at Amazon, and they have no idea when they are getting it back in. Boo-urns.

Light Up Dog Collar

dogledcollar.jpg

When I took my dogs with me down to Mexico, we stayed in a little village that only got electricity a few years ago. As such, not all of the paths are lighted at night, and we had to hike a little bit to get to our home from the main path. It was very dark at night, and we had to worry about things you wouldn’t normally think of at home, such as sharp rocks, scorpions, snakes, furry creatures, tree roots, garbage, and crossing a river.

We had little LED flashlights, which were super handy as the LED bulbs were very bright and they last FOREVER on one battery. It was unfortunate we didn’t have something similar for the dogs. I wish I had found the website for Nite Ize before that trip.

The company Nite Ize offers all kinds of lighted products and they have a really cool light-up LED collar for dogs called the “Nite Dawg L.E.D Collar”.

The light in this collar can be set to flash or glow and can be seen from up to 1000ft in the dark. It uses a battery that you can replace, but they say that it will last for 100,000 hours.

This looks like the perfect collar for people who like to do things at night with their dogs, or take their dogs with them on adventures. If you’re interested, you can see the product and visit the Nite Ize site by clicking here.

Sea Dog Collar Helps Dogs Float and Swim

seadogcollar.gif

When we went to Mexico with our dogs Mr. Meaty and Anna, I worried a little about how they would fare in the ocean. As Mr. Meaty was a pug, I felt he would need help the most should we find ourselves tipped out of a boat, and bought him a little lifejacket. Anna on the other hand is a huge dog and an incredible swimmer and I didn’t think she’d need any help.

After spending three months in Mexico, I really wished I had bought her some kind of flotation device. First, when we would go swimming, she thought nothing of just heading off towards the horizon and would only turn around when called back. I worried that she would tire and get pulled away by the tide. Second, we had an incident where she leapt from a dock to catch a retreating boat and found herself in deep water she couldn’t swim out of. It took a lot of nervous yelling and coaxing to get her up on the very steep rocks at the side. I thought I would watch her drown that day.

The device pictured above is called the Sea Dogg, a buoyant swim collar for dogs that keeps their head above water and helps them to swim. Unlike a lifejacket, the collar is simple to put on and adjusts to any size between 11 and 20 inches.

I think something like this would have been perfect for Anna. A lifejacket her size would have been cumbersome to carry around and this neck collar would have been great for when we went swimming. Perhaps next time I will be able to try one of these out.

Obey the Pure Breed!

It’s highly likely that you’ve already seen the following site, but if you haven’t, man you’re in for a treat.

I LOVE my pug, and in searching for information on pugs, I discovered Obey the Pure Breed, a website that has really unique designs for all kinds of products, from t-shirts and posters to bumper sticks and baby onsies. They have images/designs of ALL different kinds of dog breeds and all of them are really unique. And this is not your usual product. This is “propaganda for canine world domaination”!

I think what I really liked was that their designs featuring pugs really capture the true character of a pug. I’ve seen so many people try to draw a pug or design an image, and they just can’t get the wrinkles right or the squashed face to look natural.

Look at that face, isn’t he hilarious:
obeythepurebreed1.jpg

I think this site has a lot of stuff that would make good stocking stuffers for friends and presents for the people in your life with dogs. I think my little Chublet would look hilarious in one of their pug shirts, and trust me, he’s going to take over the world. Soon. Just not yet.

Take a peek, these dogs are hilarious.

Is he a Dunny?

I can’t think of a good word that combines both “dog” and “bunny” together. However, I have photo evidence that a dog mixed with bunny is CUTE!

bunnyears.jpg

I found an online store called Trixie & Peanut that sells all kinds of products for dogs, both big and small. Considering I have a large dog and a small dog, I liked finding a site that had products for the two of them together.

What made me laugh out loud though was their section of wigs! REALLY! Wigs for dogs! I found the idea pretty hilarious. However, in that section, I also found the above bunny hat, which is pretty ridiculous but too darn cute to resist! Just imagine my little Chublet wearing that hat! Poor doggie!

If you want to see the site for yourself, you can click here for the wigs and hats, or click here for the main page of the site. They have plenty of products that aren’t ridiculous, so check them out.

Winter Jacket - Old Navy

meatywintercoat06.jpg Anna, my big lab/sheperd cross, does well in the snowy Canadian winter because she has a thick luxurious double layered coat of hair. It also helps that she’s got quite a layer of fat lately!

Then there’s Mr. Meaty. He only has a short single coat of hair and he’s a pretty small boy (shhhhh don’t let him hear anyone say that!). He gets pretty darn cold in the winter.

And so, I was thrilled when I saw this coat in the local Old Navy. He’s been wearing it on colder days for walks, and he’s been doing great outside. I haven’t seen him shivering yet, and when we come in the house and remove the coat, his body feels nice and warm underneath.

I think what I liked about this coat the most was that it’s made out of material much like a human winter coat.

Anyway, I thought I’d tell you guys about it in case you’re looking for good coats for your active dogs!
